Which AI & Productivity Topics Actually Go Viral in Indonesia — and Why It Isn't AI
We analyzed 344 public posts about AI, productivity, digital literacy and side hustles over four weeks. The finding runs against the obvious guess: the most-discussed topic is not the one that reaches the most people.
How we collected the data
An internal analysis of 344 public Indonesian-language posts about AI, productivity, digital literacy and side hustles, collected between 14 September and 10 October 2026. Each post was classified into one main theme; likes were summed per theme. Data is presented in aggregate — without naming, attributing, or quoting any account or source. Figures are rounded; the remainder of the sample covers mixed themes outside the seven main categories.
Theme distribution: volume vs. engagement
Note the imbalance. AI & automation takes 42% of all posts but contributes only ~16% of total likes. Meanwhile Productivity/life-hacks is represented by a single post — yet that post alone earned over 3,000 likes, one of the highest per-post ratios in the entire sample.
Patterns behind high-performing content
Grouping the high-engagement posts, a few patterns repeat consistently:
Real prices, commissions, click counts and figures beat general opinions.
Thin margins, mis-counted sums, near-misses build trust — not showing off.
"Don't do this" framing drives shares because it feels urgent and useful.
Invites replies; conversation rises, and the algorithm pushes it further.
Complex ideas stick when explained through something familiar.
Tips you can apply the same day always beat theory.
Why this matters for creators
If you make content in the AI or productivity space, the biggest temptation is to follow whatever topic is busiest. The data suggests the opposite: pick an angle that touches readers' everyday lives, not just a topic everyone is talking about. Security, privacy and practical tips have fewer players but far higher per-post engagement.
It also explains why concrete, step-by-step guides tend to last: they answer a real need rather than chasing a trend.
